After Hurricane Florence: Healing with CAARE

Local community-based, non-profit Healing with CAARE, Inc. was prepared for Hurricane Florence ahead of time.

With the help of the Inter-faith Food Shuttle, they managed to provide plenty of food to about 40 senior citizens.

They were the emergency shelter for the medically fragile, homeless participants who have substance abuse, and veterans. Those participants were given a hotline number in case of emergency.

Healing with CAARE, Inc. has been providing consumer services according to the client’s needs who are uninsured and might be “medically fragile” for 23 years. They focus on becoming an oasis to underserved populations.

CAARE, Inc. services meets the needs of individuals through various programs.

Their major goals are to support, educate and empower those who are HIV/AIDS infected and a high-risk population by providing medical services.

Healing with CAARE, Inc. has an overarching goal to reduce health, social, and economic disparities.

Carolyn E. Hinton, the director of healing with CAARE, Inc., states that the center has “no barriers to care,” meaning there are no limits or preventions that will allow people who need medical attention to be treated.

CAARE, Inc. started out as an prevention and education program, then later on expanded on into more services. Their additional services are free medical and dental clinic, food pantry, community kitchen, community outreach, and so much more supportive services.

The agency collaborates with community partners to build programs designed to address their consumer’s needs. Healing with CAARE allows for effective outcomes by facilitating support groups, serving as motivation for growth in the community which was primarily advocated during Hurricane Florence.
