A trove of discarded treasures — paper, candles, fabric scraps and more — may seem like trash to some, but to Durham’s Scrap Exchange, it is the foundation of a thriving artistic community. Since its opening in 1991, the Scrap Exchange has become a haven for community members looking for a sustainable way to craft.

Chris Vitiello, Durham’s newest poet laureate and famed Poetry Fox, plans to make poetry public in the community. His tenure will be organized around the theme “poems everywhere.”
Straight Talk Support Group (STSG) has been a source of hope in the Durham community for 11 years. The organization is now asking for community donations to keep its transitional home afloat after state funding cuts in March.
